Variations of Sunflowers

Sunflowers are in full bloom where we live and it's always a welcome surprise to see them towering over the rest of the garden. I love to see the wide variety of colors in bloom, especially the species I've never even heard of before. There are so many species that when I looked for seeds online, I even got a little overwhelmed!

Karaoke From Home

Our learning co-op is always inspiring, and this semester, which will largely be from home, is really no exception. I'm just astounded byt the creativity. From online art shows and living museums to games, book clubs and more, there is something every day, and often many things to choose from, all mostly from home.

Launch Day Desserts!

The new Mars rover is launching on Thursday and at Geek Mom, they are preparing not only with watch party information, but desserts! And why not? If we're all watching from home, we might as well make it into a tiny, nuclear family-sized party while we're at it!

The moms over at Geek Mom are making Mars themed cookies, Jell-O, red velvet cake... all kinds of red themed treats to enjoy for the big launch. The idea is to keep it red! So you could make hibiscus tea, cherry pie, watermelon... you get the idea.

Tea Subscriptions

Subscription boxes are all the rage right now, but did you know that you can subscribe to tea boxes? From looseleaf to bagged tea, big boxes with flavorings and accessories to simple tea of the month clubs, there's something for everyone.

I love Grimoire tea, so I'm trying out her Patreon club where you get one tea each month. What's nice is that you can cancel and re-subscribe anytime you want, and you get to vote on the tea of the month and know what it's going to be in advance.

What tea subscriptions do you use? Share them in the chat!

Seafood is King

Is anyone surprised that the number one food delivered around Seattle during shutdown has been seafood? It's kind of an obvious answer but you never really know. Some people had to want mac and cheese while sheltering at home, right?

Lots of other foods made trending top cuts, too, from lattes and breakfast burritos to chicken tikka masala. Stuffed jalapenos were much desired at night, and ranch was the top condiment for the West Coast so far in 2020.

Pumpkin Beverages at Home

I don't know about y'all, but I'm about DONE with 2020, DONE with summer, and DONE with our government lagging on covid response. It's all getting so old and I know many of us are fed up. While we protest and wait for an election (because what else can we do at this point?), I've been turning to Halloween for my hope. Even if we can't go anywhere, Halloween at home is my heart.

Your Favorite Dead Show

When it comes to our favorite bands, many of us have a favorite show in mind. For me, it's usually one I attended, but that's pretty rare. Lots of people cite special performances that were known to be extraordinary, groundbreaking or just plain good. Some bands have even become famous over sessions just messing around that turned into recorded masterpieces.

Halloween Wreaths

With Halloween around the corner (thank goodness), I keep seeing all kinds of fun Halloween crafts being shared everywhere. Today it was all about the wreaths!

I've made a few simple Halloween wreaths in the past but I've seen some really neat Nightmare Before Christmas, haunted carnival and other themes that I'd love to make on my own. Some of these were in stores for hefty pricetags and I wondered if I might be able to make them more cheaply.

Hallumi Cheese

Oh, hallumi cheese. Is there anything more delicious when fried and served piping hot? A friend of mine recommended the dish to us years ago and it was love at first bite! I had no idea that some people further season their hallumi, which sounds sooo good.

This curry marinade for hallumi cheese is something I need to try STAT. I'm all about curry, especially if it's spicy.

Cosmetics for Redheads

This week, I wanted to talk about not only how important AOC's speech was but also what a tough cookie she is and how I hope she runs for president in 2028. But I think we've all heard the words spoken to her (and those spoken to us by many a man) enough this week and I wanted to share something that I, as one of the 2% of redheads, am super excited about.
