Have a Groovy Halloween!

Most people are living through Halloween this year with a touch of grey, so to speak. No, it's not entirely cancelled, especially if you're creative at home, but it's very important to protect our neighbors and ourselves by avoiding trick-or-treating and other traditonal, germ-spreading events. So what is on your agenda?

Halloween Animal Legends

Most people know all sorts of legends and folklore surrounding poor black cats, which are my favorite kinds of pets, and Harry Potter has spread the word about the Grim. When I was a kid, I loved hearing about vampires being trapped by counting every grain of rice on your doorstep or turning into bats, and the stories about witches who would shape-shift and get caught with an injury they'd sustained while in animal form.

Last Minute Halloween Crafts

Whether you're planning on staying home this weekend, babysitting or just looking for something easy and quick to do to get into the Halloween spirit, there are lots of really simple Halloween crafts you can do that don't cost a lot of money. Here are just a few ideas:

Use sharpies to draw on pumpkins. If you have paint, try layering and flicking it on for a galaxy look!

Cut up a cardboard egg carton and draw on faces to make 12 quick, cute ghosts

Support Your Local Businesses

Many people are struggling during this pandemic, including local businesses that attempt to navigate the muddy waters of quarantine rules, ever-changing information and the lack of customers who are staying home for safety. While we need to continue to be as safe as possible, when it's possible we should also support our local businesses when we can.

Wisteria in Bloom

Who doesn't love a bunch of gorgeous wisteria hanging over a pergola in the yard? It's one of those plants that's almost magical as it transports you into a much more colorful, softer world. The blue and purple colors are incredibly soothing and beautiful, but they do take time to cultivate.

Getting Pregnant While Pregant

It seems like we constantly find out things we learned in school just aren't the way things are. Some of the best things that we could possibly learn are to think critically, question everything and understand that most things are not absolute or black and white. One of these is gender, which exists on an incredibly wide spectrum--much too wide for us to narrow it to two but here we are!

Sanderson Sister Drinks

Going to Starbucks sometime this weekend? If so, you might want to try one of these fun Sanderson sister themed drinks based on Winnie, Mary and Sarah Sanderson of Hocus Pocus!

Winnie's beverage is an altered green tea frappucino, while Sarah's is a customized violet drink. Mary's drink is a version of the strawberries and cream frappucino. Keep in mind that not every barista will know every drink and you may have to list the ingridents for them.

Loa Frogs Have Lots Of Babies!

Loa frogs are critically endangered, which is why any reproduction of the species is a cause for celebration. Some of these rare species, which are being kept in the Santiago zoo in Chile, have been busy reproducing and giving the species a chance.

Recently these rescued frogs made 200 new babies, give them the possibility of a future. Should the zoo continue this work and research it's possible the species could make a recovery. Stranger things have happened!

Virtual Drawing Games

My kiddo's been playing lots of online drawing games with friends throughout the year and I must say that it's a really fun way to connect. You don't even need to use a special program; you can play regular Win, Lose or Draw and hold up your drawings. I suggest using dark markers!

You can also use the drawing options on Zoom, which allow you to share a screen and draw together. This is especially fun for kids. You can also try apps like Scribblio, which is what my teen uses with friends a lot of the time.
