Easter Takeout in Seattle

Takeout for the holidays has become our favorite part of the pandemic. We miss family, but we love surprising them by dropping off takeout meals and heading home for our own. Sometimes we make multiple stops so the food stays hot but it's a wonderful way to spread some love and support local businesses while you experience something to enjoy.

TikTok Party Board Game

A lot of people think that TikTok is just a place to do dance challenges. If that were the case, I probably wouldn't love it; I'm there for the teen witch inside me, the "mature and thoughtful" kid in me who grew up too fast, the me with niche interests and other... reasons. There's a lot more than you think, and there's SO much positivity due to all of the Millennials and Zoomers. But if you DO enjoy the dancing challenges, you might like this party game.

Best Cats of Tiktok

There is a TikTok that makes fun of Millennials who mock it, saying that they'd never use that Vines knockoff followed by an image of said Millennial cracking up over TikTok months later in quarantine. Yep, that sums up me! I never thought I'd go for it, either, but do you know how many fun animal videos are there, among other niches?

Best Soil for Succulents

My poor aloe plant has long outgrown its pot, and I need to re-pot it in something bigger. My husband brought me a home a big pot but then I went and planted my seeds in all the soil I had! Oops. It may be best because I'm going to try and get some of the best soil for my longest-living buddy. The question is, what should I get?

Family Guy Jokes We Don't Appreciate

CBR just released some information about how Family Guy has poked fun at the real life suffering of people, which isn't news to anyone. The show makes many of its jokes about people's suffering, especially trans people, one of our most vulnerable populations. I'd have to say those are my least favorite jokes on the show, with the misogynist ones coming in a close second.

Vaccine's Effectiveness Tested

There's some reassurance available for those of us waiting with bated breath for a dose of a Covid vaccine: a real-world study has shown that it's highly effective. It's almost as good in real world tests as it was during trials, which is such good news. People need this reassurance if we're going to achieve herd immunity. Some studies show that we need about 70% of people vaccinated to achieve it.

800 Hits of Acid

Maybe I should already know this as a Grateful Dead fan, but Jerry Garcia passed away when I was just starting college, so bear with me here. A fan apparently once made a cake for the band that was loaded with 800 hits of acid and the band ATE it. Jerry knew it was loaded and the fan was known to be a wild guy, but the birthday cake was apparently too good to resist--and the band had no idea just how loaded it was.

Fun Spring Masks

Now that spring is here, it's time for spring mask season! As bleak as that sounds, it's also something we can do to lighten up a bit, especially if you're tired of wearing the same washable masks you've had for months. We have several that we rotate and wash but it's always nice to try out a new design, especially if that design says it doesn't make glasses fog. (Spoiler alert: no mask has done that for me yet, but soap on my lenses has helped.)

Peeps Pepsi

Peeps flavored Pepsi. Is that really what we need today? Pepsi apparently thinks so since it's collaborating with Peeps to create these Easter-themed sodas. You can't get them at the store, though. The FOMO will be real for the people who don't win the sweepstakes you have to enter to get a taste of these marshmallowy beverages.

Dr. Rachel Levine Confirmed

Boy does it seem bleak sometimes. I saw a post from the CDC issuing recommendations (which I think should be requirements, even if there's no way to enforce them well) for Easter gatherings and all of the people commenting about how they didn't believe in the virus, or masks, or any science at all and it makes my heart so heavy. So when we get news like this, we need to celebrate hard. In our homes.

Best Knockoff Liquor Brands

When it comes to liquor, I'm pretty flexible about my brands. Yes, I love Bacardi and Jack Daniels but I've had plenty of other brands that were perfectly fine. Many knockoff brands are even better than the originals in terms of quality and flavor (and especially when it comes to price!), but I know many people swear by different knockoff brands.

New Miller Lite Candle

There's no shortage of weird candles on the market. One of my favorite candle scents is kettle corn, and I've seen all kinds of strange scents, from bacon to urine-scented candles! Gross. Now Miller Lite is offering a candle that smells like a dive bar, and I'm not so sure it's the best idea ever.

The good news is that this new bar line of candles, which also includes the beer garden scent, has been developed to help benefit the hospitality sector. I'm all about that, and perhaps the candles will be a pleasant scent. Some dive bars smell pretty good, after all.

Georgia Brings Back Jim Crow

This week Georgia passed some incredibly disturbing laws reminiscent of Jim Crow. Want to give someone waiting in line a drink of water while they wait? It's illegal with this legislation. Can you imagine? The lawmakers who design a system in which lines are this long in the first place are punishing people who are trying to stay in line to vote. It's absolutely unbelievable... and yet, somehow in the United States in 2021, it's honestly not surprising.
